Dr. Bob Chastanet loves giving people back their lives. The operations he performs can often cure diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and other diseases caused by obesity. Dr. Chastanet is an experienced, fellowship-trained laparoendoscopic surgeon with over a decade of post-fellowship experience performing state of the art laparoscopic weight loss operations such as gastric bypass, gastric band placement and sleeve gastrectomy. He has performed well over 800 weight loss operations with a safety record exceeding national standards.
Dr. Robert Chastanet attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating with honors in 1983, and then attended the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences for medical school, graduating in the top 10% of his class in 1987. He completed his General Surgery residency in 1994 at the San Diego Naval Medical Center, and completed further fellowship training in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery in 2004 at the University of Texas at Houston. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2010.
Prior to his retirement from the United States Navy in 2009, Dr. Chastanet was the Head of the Bariatric Surgery Division at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. During his time in the Navy, Dr. Chastanet deployed on numerous ships all over the world and headed surgical units in Bahrain and Afghanistan.
In his spare time, Bob enjoys gardening, spending time with his three sons, swimming, and taking his two therapy dogs to visit local hospitals and care homes.
